@tristanpau1p The extra efficiency will enable greater range but it wont enable greater sustained speeds because the B anc C version have an issue with rear fuselage structural intergrity at sustained supersonic flight.

@tristanpau1p well the issue I’m referring to is separate from the costing issue. Structural issues caused mechanical misalignment that compromised stealth rather than a top coat problem.

Nope, the F-35 will never be capable of sustained supersonic speeds for structural reasons unless they put in a fix for those issues, the rear fuselage is vulnerable to damage along with the sensor panels in that area as well as stealth coating integrity. Right now, it is just too expensive to fix.

@phillm156 The F-135 engine was not designed for supercruise. LM do NOT classify the F-35 as a supercruiser. It excels at M 0.9.

The rear fuselage is the real issue.

No speed increase and no supercruise. Just greater range. The B and C model cannot tolerate sustained supersonic flight.
