In open combat that mirrors WW2 - their application could be two fold: hitting HVT's (C2, ammo depot - especially artillery, and fuel depots) or taking out armor on MSR's (that one MSR Russian require in order to encircle) or targeting armor that is openly maneuvering on trenches - without armor the infantry elements would be exposed trying to attack entrenched positions. Also, dear Ukraine - the way use drones to dial in your fires - that can also be used by air assets (helo or fixed wing); you guys are getting great at combined arms, keep it up.
