They do not have enough logistical supplies to maintain what's left of their army, adding more bodies will literally result on units of men killing and ravaging each other for limited resources, especially as winter sets in.

Ukraine has spent over a month fielding new brigrades, and will by mid August have a squadron of F16's - not to mention more HIMARs. Turkey was there for a drug deal - Putin turns on the pipeline and Turkey slows down NATO expansion (Finland / Sweden); allowing Germany to save face.

Bakmut is a major drain on Russian manpower, equipment, will, etc - Its a well fortified positions being assaulted by poorly trained/equipped troops who lack proper ratios to succeed. Pull them forward into canalized terrain (away from LOCs and LOGPACs and hit them with fires. losses are almost 3 to 1 (MoD), if you count LPR, DPR, Wagner, tik tok warriors closer to 6 or 7 to 1. The town leads to an MSR you need to Slovyansky (which is strategic) - Russia could have secured ASR's that intersect but choose this meat grinder. We were wrong in regards to Ukraine's ability to hold off human waves and Wagner - to not get their ASR cut off. If that ASR was cutoff Russians would have encircled. And due to this effort, Russia spent their conscripts on a worthless cause. And the best part is - Russia is offsides as they will be unable to shift assets south when Ukraine's offensive kicks off. In barney terms - Ukraine took the most high risk, high reward course of action and it has paid off this far.
