  1. It's the money - american oligarchs / the donor class - they went long China and Russia and shorted US retail. They are globalists who thought the tide was turning and China was rising. They forgot two key factors: one Putin and Xi get a vote (both are incompetent and sheltered and only act to preserve and expand their power - hard to control) and two Americans thrive in chaos. As globalization unwinds we will be largely the sole winner - the unipolar world wont change for another generation - the oligarchs are largely holding a bag shit and staring at the exit door. Remember crypto exists due to OFAC, the PLA (chinese army) makes the Russians look competent, US dollar will eat all other currencies (even as offshore dollar debt implodes the dollar will scream higher), and large banks and clearing folk are close to imploding (folks in Europe and no not just CS) that contagion risk will eat banking alive. Folks like Gates are doomed as their wealth is largely the liquidity of the oligarchs (like Ken Griffin) and that offshore 80 tril off the balance sheet time bomb is largely Soros (FX derivative exposure).
