The only problem with helping people get off section 8 etc is that the govt designs it to penalize attempts at independence,; people are penalized for creating savings accounts over certain amounts. It's not that people like or want to be "stuck", it's the way the entire system is designed. People do get out from time to time but it's the exception.

  3. Wow. Tha makes perfect sense -- Christians having thrown over Symbolism for science paved the way for so many of the materialist only bound views all around us. I always wondered why Christians didn't have a better argument besides just "because God said so."

  6. Loved this conversation! As far as the various converts go, maybe this is where we should be reminded of Father Seraphim Rose's The Royal Path? I mean other church Fathers long before wrote of it but he had pulled it back up to the forefront, and Fr. Josiah Trenham and Fr. Peter Heers remind us as well. Focusing on the Royal Path we neither tilt too far one way or the other. Looking forward to more great conversations!

  7. That guy, Taylor, isn't Orthodox, is he? The thing is, a lot of former liberals that walked away from the Dems starting in 2017 due to the growing intolerance and extremism, have been warning this stuff was going to erupt as a reaction. I don't know when exactly the healthy promotion of multiculturalism got replaced by Caucasian-hating DEI teachings, but here we are. Shelby Steele even warned on this in his book White Guilt from what, the 90s. White teenagers try to flee that by flocking to the gender dystopia tribes as fellow marginalized beings. . I'm a life long reggae lover going back to the 70s so no of course I don't like the idea of white nationalism in the least. But to not see it as a natural response, in some people, to the growing anti-white rhetoric in colleges and elsewhere, is to not connect the patterns. Both things --- black or white superiority --- need to be denounced. The only sane solution as Orthodox know is in Orthodoxy , but not everyone is near that yet. In the meantime, we have to stop pretending black on white crime doesn't exist, and cease the pathetic apologizing for being white.

  8. Slowly but surely yours is becoming one of my favorite podcasts. I am 2 years 3 months into our Orthodox path, chrismated one year. I am loving everything about Orthodoxy as well as so many of the people. And what a great surprise to find another roots reggae lover! I have albums going back to the mid 70s when I began collecting them. Also, having not been raised in church, it was my first Biblical introduction. Absolute ZERO nihilism, even though I did not know what that word was at the time.
