Yeah that's the main takeaway everyone should get from Wikipedia. It's great for example, easy access into learning who played in the 1978 FIFA World Cup or learning about the history behind your home town but if there's three main problems I have with the site (I'm a long-term editor of 4 years with hundreds of articles made), it's that the notability requirements for fictional characters are absurdly high on the English Wikipedia, people constantly trying to delete pages and categories from the site for at times, literally no reason and the modern political articles with those at times pushing outright misinformation

It's actually pretty low. I should really become a freelance writer sometime in the future though...

Literal Boomer mindset right here

The whole "secondary sources MUST be used to demonstrate notability" is pretty much my main gripe with Wikipedia because say for example, fictional characters that a good amount of people actually recognize such as say, Sagat, King Dedede or Reimu Hakurei have had their articles deleted but then some stupid meme character that only a specific group of people and journalists talked about gets to have their article kept.

@marknemeth267 Same case with the Spanish wiki as I also edit there and I'm genuinely considering giving outright cleanups to certain articles because Bob Saget are they bad

@observeowl The thing is though is that when applying the current policies regarding reliable sources, this usually means that in their eyes, only sites like Kotaku or IGN (yeah..., those....) are deemed to be "reliable" and "a demonstration of notability". I can agree that fan wikis are pretty bad when it comes to being overtly specific in their articles but at least give a basic rundown. Oh did I also mention that it's so draconian nowadays that a video game character needs academic sources in order to pass notability? Keep in mind not even anime or movie characters get this same treatment and their articles are relatively fine on their own.

@observeowl So I won't reveal exactly what my Wikipedia account is nor will I name names because I really don't want to get involved in drama but I'm far from a new editor as I have had several hundreds of articles created for years. All I will say is that I had made an article back in around December 2023 (it's still up) and it was nominated for deletion. The reason? No academic merit to it. Thankfully some guy managed to find several Chinese references to keep it from being deleted but many other articles were not met with the same fate as one look at WikiProject Video Games you can find the same 4 editors nominating stuff for deletion even if notability is already established in the existing article as they usually just look at the "Reception" section rather than reviewing each source and its reliability.

@thewhitefalcon8539 Who's going to pay for the site though because there's hundreds of thousands of articles on Wikipedia
