He also doesn't know that the other names the islands have are also relevant, such as Rēkohu/Wharekauri etc. The brilliance of the Māori mind is that it hold multiple knowledges to be true, it is why the names they have are advanced, rich, deep and meaningful. At least Māori actually love this country. Unlike 'north' and 'south' island ffs. They didn't even try the a*holes.
