It makes sense that New Zealand has a low death toll because people are not all packed in together like Sardines, there used to be a joke that New Zealand has more sheep than people. In the last few days New Zealand has had a surge in COVID-19 cases. Also Italy stopped all flight from China on the 31st of January and it made no difference to reducing the number of cases there.

The UK is a small country and yet it has a massive population of 67 million almost the same as France which has 65 million people and is more than twice the size of the UK and the UK has 41,000 deaths from COVID-19... Maybe countries where the population are all crammed in like sardines are more at risk of spreading this virus.
