My ex-boyfriend was convinced that women were less, because his father loathed his mother.
He was also convinced women were trying to 'dominate' men and that that's what feminism was about. And that you should stop them, before they even get a chance to think about it.
That's why he asked (politely, then firmly) that I would not read in his house, as it made him nervous. He had many anxieties, and I tried to help, so I stopped reading.
He later told me, it was to prevent me 'getting any ideas, like if you read a book about how to manipulate your boyfriend.'
He himself, had been reading some manipulation-stuff and was using that on me, which is probably where his fear came from.
Either way, I'm 32 now, he is my ex and I am, as it were, re-learning that I am a worthy human being and that I decide over my body.
What I want to eat, is my decision. Whether I shave my legs, is my decision. Whether I have intercourse, is my decision. And whether I want a baby is my decision.
Whether I eat bananas, whether I read and whether I leave the house to go get some fresh air...it is all my decision. And it should have always been. But now it definitely is.
