Yeah and the thing is...in war, you're basically done for as well.
They're out to get you and that's it. There is no technique in war, except the basics of 'duck down' and 'be quiet.'
Other than that, you are dead within weeks, most likely. Have you seen the movie 'All quiet on the Western front?'
War is not about skills or learning techniques, it's about sheer luck. Same happens with shootings.
What if she trained him for this and then in the panic and rush of things, he couldn't stop himself wailing in fear or the shooter said; 'Hey! The cops are here!' and he yelled; 'Good, help us!' and the shooter came in.
You can only put so much responsibility on a child facing off against a clever, weapon-carrying adult. And that responsibility is like 2%.
A better way would be to teach him to stay quiet álways (even when there is a cop, because it's not like the cops will abandon the school after walking around once) and when he feels nervous, draw a heart in the air with his nose (or with his nose against the back of the backpack) and "send it to mommy and daddy."
And then they'll send a heart back and he'll likely feel that as warmth near his heart.
That way, whether or not it's his last moment or his last moment-before-being-saved, he will have thought of his parents and felt loved. And kept calm and quiet.
THAT is more important, because THAT is what they actually have controll over.
