  1. Forgiving is very difficult and is not always something you're able to do but actively hating someone (or being afraid of someone that's still out there) is exhausting. So, if forgiveness means to stop actively making hating-them a part of your day, then yes.

  2. Forgiving is also different from deathpenalty. My assaulter is still out there, I do not wish the deathpenalty on him. Neither do I wish to him what he did to me. I do however, wish for him to be unable to harm others. No extra suffering, just locked up.
