  2. When I was in an abusive relationship, I asked for a napkin once in a restaurant. The owner responded; No way! Absolutely no fricking way! I teared up and walked off, profusely apologizing. Turns out he was joking. Might be PTSD but I don't like that sortof jokes. Edit; Wasn't really a restaurant, that's too much credit. More like a snackbar.

  3. Not to make this into a big thing, but when I was being intimidated in a nasty relationship, my response to a forceful 'NO!' (even if it was a normal question like can I have a napkin) was the same hastily retreat and smile and apologetic behaviour, because I knew that trying again or asking again meant violence. Not that I am suggesting this kind lady has been abused, I am just saying, people that immediately smile and retreat and don't even look dissappointed might (with the emphasis on might might and MIGHT) be people that just get intimidated from the forceful 'No.' No politeness, more submissively responding to a much-too-harsh-rejection.
