@Ramona It's because men age slower than women. A girl aged 16 is about as grown-up as a 20-year old boy. A girl aged 8 is about as grownup as a 12-year old boy, socially. That's why sometimes class with mixed ages (2-3 years difference) can really help out, when otherwise the clever kids are absolutely stuck with some potato-mash-throwing pixies.

@daisies667 That's not what I'm talking about, I wasn't referring to looks. I'm 29 and I look 17, that's not the point. I was referring to how the brain develops. Grow-spurts happen when girls are younger, they develop mental skills and understand social situations better than boys. Obviously, after a while, the boy's level becomes the same level as the girls again, but much later. In hindsight (as I also explained to Ninjaananas) it was a random fact and not relevant to share her.
