Small amounts of fluoride are (by law, taking into account that pharmaceuticals are using it as well) considered harmless, but large amounts defineately are not.
If you have fluoride in your toothpaste ánd you swallow the foamy toothpaste a bit too much, plús the dentist has you gurgle with fluoride and tells you; 'Ahw, just swallow it, no need to spit' and you then drink water with fluoride, it's known to cause (the more you do this) bone deformation, brown and yellow stains on the teeth after using it often, heart and kidney-problems, it'll weaken the bones and cause stomach ulcers.
High levels of fluoride (let's say a pregnant woman misunderstood and instead of rinsing with fluoride, she swallows the small amounts of rinse-fluoride-water each day) can cause problems with the unborn child's brain and cause permanent damage.
