I fully agree. As a 10-year old boy who saw A New Hope in a theater, I was completely taken by the original Star Wars trilogy, but of the dozen of books I’ve read that were adapted to the cinema, the LOTR trilogy most closely matches the visual and emotional landscape my imagination had conjured while reading. This is in part due to the fact that JRR Tolkien writes with exceptional detail, but is equally attributable to the commitment to the source material by all who were involved in the cinematic adaptation. A classic for the ages.

As some who was a teenager in the 70 & 80s, I completely agree. My error had great movies and great franchises, but LOTR is definitely on another level.
