The Clause protects the defendant from delay between the presentation of the indictment or similar charging instrument and the beginning of trial. Trump needs to petition the Supreme Court shortly after New Years if Mortisha doesn’t send over the papers.

  2. She can do that if they hold the majority, but not with these articles.. The shelf-life of Impeachment Articles expire when this term of Congress ends, which is the same day Trump is re-elected. If they want to impeach him after he is re-elected, they have to go through the impeachment process with the new Congress term.

She had to take it this far to appease the far left base, and so they could take a victory lap over Christmas recess, but she doesn’t want it to go any further because Trump will be able to say he was acquitted and use it as proof that it was a sham all along. Plus there are a lot of dimwits that are dreading being subpoenaed, not least are Joe and Hunter Biden.

Plus these articles of impeachment expire at the end of this term of Congress which is the same day Trump is re-elected, so they’d have to restart to impeachment process in the new term if they want to pursue, which they won’t because the American people would have just re-elected him

You are correct that it is specific to a criminal trial, however it was the basis of the rights extended to Bill Clinton when he was impeached on much more serious charges. So serious he was disbarred. This represents precedence. Of course liberals notified the public of their intent to impeach Trump before he even took the oath, so it is not at all surprising that the would deny him rights afforded to other citizens including prior presidents. The Democrats complete lack of civility, fairness, and even evidence is why this impeachment is without merit and will be judged by the American people as such in the 2020 election
