An interesting remark I've figured out after I read Max Weber's book "The Protestant Ethic and The Spirit of Capitalism" is that................Confucianism is perhaps the closest ideology of Weber's Protestant Ethic (or indeed Calvinist Ethic according to Weber himself) on this very earth in regard to working ethic. As long as working ethic is the only concern, Confucianism and Calvinist Ethic are almost identical. The ideological distance between them is much closer to the distance between Calvinism and Catholic or whatever ideology. Of course, I am not talking about theological aspects, only working ethics. Nowadays Taiwan and South Korea are still very Confucian in secular life. Japan is not a typical Confucian country. But Japan was largely affected by Chinese Tang and Song dynasties. The "traditional" Japanese clothing is indeed a close variant of Chinese Tang clothing. Mainland China and North Korea are scr3w3d by Stalin's Russians and FDR-Truman's regime. If they hadn't begged Stalin invade Manchuria, China and North Korea would have preserved the traditional Confucian way.
