...Why?

It is impossible to start off at the same place. We are too different. However, we do all have the same opportunities. It is all about recognizing it and taking advantage. The upbringing example is just an excuse and not a very good one. Why does Parent X have kids they can not afford?

Why shrug off all your hard work by comparing your struggles with others? What is the point of doing that? If you feel so bad, donate your time and/or money to charity. But do not ever let anyone-including yourself-let you think you do not deserve what you earned.

It hit a nerve because you know it is true.

@LoveRauraAndAuslly You confuse starting point with opportunities. In America, everyone has the same opportunity to succeed. It is all in the looking and seizing.
1
@LoveRauraAndAuslly Why do you inherit their financial problems when you become an adult? I would like to see these studies. There ARE people who like to live in poverty as long as someone is paying for their keep, however humble.
1
@LoveRauraAndAuslly I knew you had no studies.

@LoveRauraAndAuslly I have plenty of empathy. I donate my time and money to charity all the time. Compassion without common sense helps no one. By the way, I was looking for a simple link which I suspected you could not.
1
@LoveRauraAndAuslly Yeah, nothing. As I thought. It is not your fault for being born poor but it is when you die poor. Simple as that. Bill Gates said that and he could not be more right.

Many who come from a rich family STILL work hard and have their parents make them get a job. I think you know this but you keep pushing the stereotype to justify Marxism and classist tax laws.
1
@PsychosisFire There ARE some rich kids that do not work but 1. So what? No scratch off my back. 2. They are a minority; their ubiquity is a stereotype. Yes, all it does IS take hard work to become a millionaire given that 7 out of 10 them are self-made. Nothing delusional about that. And almost all countries that have a fellow progressive tax rate are wrong too. We are all supposed to be EQUAL. Anything else is classist. (I am NOT arguing for a flat tax though.)

What good does that do?
