  10. @ what are instantaneous? Not earthquakes, faults rip at aroun 6- 10km/s. Nukes are a little faster, but not instant. Fission neutrons are pretty slow. Fusion neutrons are faster, but not one foot per nanosecond, which is the speed limit.

  69. That's called a cold BLEVE (boiling liquid expanding vapor explosion): The water in the tank is under pressure and at 400 degrees (in one of the units) but still liquid b/c the pressure. Once the containment fails, the pressure drops to 1 atm and the water turns to steam instantly, but it still in a volume that is 1700x smaller than it's equilibrium volume, so it gets really big really fast. In a hot BLEVE, the material is also burning, like a rail car full of liquid propane. It really is like a high explosive, where a lump of plastic turns into a lump of hot gasses, still packed in its original, but now far too tiny, volume.
