  7.  @worship_the_sun_officialch506  he gave a nice little explanation of how you get to T-V...I'd never seen it before. It's not exactly intuitive, but when you quantize everything and add all the amplitudes of the paths (a la Feyman path integral), the ones around the stationary action add in phase and dominate the result. Which is exactly why it works for Fermat's Principle (and at longer wavelengths: explains Fresnel Zones). Science Asylum has a nice animation of all that.
