the atom really is the limit. How big is the simplest atom? It's a Compton wavelength of an electron, divided by the fine structure constant. Any thing smaller than Compton wavelength has enough uncertainty in momentum (energy) to create electron/positron pairs. Dividing by alpha (multiplying by 137) means the size is set by the strength of electromagnetism. Now muonic computers would be 200 cubed times smaller (based on mass)...and we have muonic hydrogen, it is smaller, but it's unstable...so we need to fix that.
