@ACKZink not really. Plenty of professionals don't use SI units, e.g., what is the mass of the Higgs boson, and how many inverse pico-barns did it take to measure it? How many Janskys is that radio galaxy? Got a 500 mb weather chart? Speaking of weather, how many dBz was that rain last night? The mark of someone serious about STEM is that they use the right unit for the job.

the fastest manmade object was LEP's 104.5 GeV electron beam, achieving a Lorentz factor g=204501, with velocity v = c(1-1/(2g^2)), or 3 mm/s slower than light. The fastest macroscopic object on Earth was a 1-ton steel plug capping the Pascal-A 1-point safety test during operation Plumbbob, which blew off at 150000mph, slower than several spacecraft. But which coordinates do we use to measure s/c velocity?
