  1. I vote for the Holloman rocket sled, which does 0-10,325 KPH in a second or two. They do the ultimate engineering upgrade: replace that thick air (atomic weight ~ 28) in the way with a few mile long helium ballon (atomic weight 4). It's ok that the ballon breaks, because the sled is so much faster than breaking.
