they would have to be in our orbital plane so they could see the Earth transit the sun, and they would have be looking at the right time of the year, and then they'd detect the spectra of CFCs and other manmade stuff in the atmosphere and they'd be all Life!, WTF???

one problem is that objects that are at 98.6 F, glow in the infrared. (hbar * c/kT) = 7 microns, so infrared rods & cones would be saturated in their own light.

btw: ALL apertures do this. The only one that does is infinitely wide and has zero obstructions, aka: nothing. Only nothing produces no artifacts.

if you can see the spikes, then the source of interest is already overexposed.

it's the Fourier transform of a hexagon.

The weird thing about the bright diffraction spikes, is that are caused by light that doesn't get there, not by light that does. It's just that the light that is blocked it out of phase, so is unavailable to cancel the spikes.

hmm, that would make magnification pointless.

I don't work on JSWT, but I have never worked on and s/c that folded back up. It's just screams: RISK.
