Whoah, major insult calling Rutherford an "atomic" physicist. That is anathema to us nuclear physicists, of which he was the FIRST.

@actually5004 Nuclear physics is not concerned with atomic physics, except perhaps as a source for electron capture or blocking certain decays (there are stable elements that can decay when ionized). Atomic physics is not concerned with nuclear structure, other than the charge and spin, as they affect electron states. They are completely different fields. There is niche overlap in the study of parity violation in atomic states, as it is sensitive to the Weinberg angle at low energy, and also in the use of Moller scattering for electron/positron beam polarimetry in polarized deep inelastic scattering studies of the spin structure of quarks and gluons in the nucleons.

@Ugly_German_Truths Ruth's model of the atom was the fact that the nucleus exists. He did not make a model of the nucleus beyond its size, charge, and that it is hard. He did not model atomic structure.
