@philipjamesparsons mediazona (open source Estonian based not pro-Russian) estimates 100k Kia for Ukraine and about 20k for Russia as of December 2022

@mycure0498 mediazona (an open source osint publication based in Estonia that tries to predict losses of both sides) predicts Ukraine has 100k killed and Russia is only at 25k killed...

@mycure0498 oryx overcounts Russian equipment losses as it doesn't account for repaired vehicles that then get blown up multiple times and are counted as a seperate "loss"
1
@Brian Case I don't think Russia is - it has one partial mobilization and hasn't had any since. Ukraine is at its 10 wave of mobilization - what happened to all the other waves?
1
@mycure0498 Wagner supplies got deprioritized because Shoigu feels uncomfortable with Prigozhin winning the limelight in Bakhmut and that a Wagner victory in Bakhmut may put Shoigus rather lucrative position in jeopardy.
1
@MyCure049 besides the "Russian losses" have been mostly underarmed and undertrained prisoners used by Wagner to run them through minefields, find holes in Ukrainian defenses, etc. I question how much of those "losses" are professional soldiers

@mycure0498 Its not faulty logic tho - there are numerous telegram videos of trains loaded with blown up tanks and BMPs being transported back to Russia for retrofit and repair.

@MyCure049 nowhere in Oryxs statistics have I seen a mention of repaired tanks been included as a seperate counter. And no, repairing a tank doesn't require many resources or time as most of the time it's replacement of the turret or the tracks (as that is the main weakpoint of Russian tanks). There's really no point in wasting time and fuel to being back burnt scrap lol. And statistically most Russian tank crews survive so they don't need new tank crews either.

@MyCure049 Uralvagonozavod is the largest tank producer in the world (look it up) and since Russia uses only the T series tanks they have plenty of spare parts including turrets. It's very fast to repair tanks If you watch the full videos of the Ugledar and Avdeevka attacks you'd see that all of the crews survived and ran away. Indeed there's social media posts with the tank crews posing at the hospital

@MyCure049 repairs are being carried out primarily through built up stocks. And keep in mind, according to Soviet doctrine focusing heavily on tank warfare, Russians had huge numbers of tanks in stockpile, and extra parts for them. That's in addition to the parts produced by Uralvogonozavod. Sights are largely irrelevant to repairs as repairs often use parts previously produced prior to sanctions. This is why newly produced tanks use older sights). The number of tank crews picked off is very small (at least what we've seen on video). And it's standard Russian practice to send all soldiers from battle to the hospital to get a medosmotor (medical commission) and that usually happens at hospitals.

@MyCure049 if you know anything abt Soviet (what Russian infrastructure is based on) factories are not necessary for repair of tanks. Indeed, there are pictures and videos you can find on Instagram of repairs being conducted in open fields or behind warehouses. All I'm saying is that optics is irrelevant currently in tank repairs. According to who are "most of the tanks are irrepairable"? Can I get a source on that? There must be a reason why Russia is bringing them back home in massive quantities (in Vugledar there is even a tank recover vehicle that got blown up by remote mines for example)

@wallingnaga6563 interesting they don't lidt Kia. It's probably very high
1
@Christopher Wang Russia took an operational phase because it overextended. And Kharkov offensive was hastily prepared (given the light infantry Ukraine used) and was caused mostly by US intelligence showing that 50,000 Russian contract soldiers did not renew their contracts in the region leaving it bare of soldiers
1
@jackgraves5121 NATO countries are complaining their stockpiles are empty lol and are buying equipment from Isreal and Qatar lol

@cameronspence4977 if they could beat the Russians they would have done so by now and not waited a year. But we will see what the future brings
