  1. Concrete is everywhere in Japan. Concrete tetrapods along the ocean are grotesque eyesores. The people here are great but they seem to overlook maintaining high aesthetic standards. Many beautiful natural sites are often surrounded by rusty corrugated metal, electrical cables, and mold-stained concrete and stucco. Mix that with abrasive neon lighting and loud garish television shows and one has to wonder whatever happened to Zen and the tea ceremony.
