My own experience: prescribed SSRI for chronic pain and depression and was far better than the alternative medication. It certainly can increase suicide risk- because it increases your confidence and determination and suppresses your fear. I got CBT too which was very effective for anxiety in the past but less so for a crippling illness that made me a burden on my wife with our newborn. In essence I was fighting against natural mammalian suicide to benefit my family materially and logically- because my wife asked me to. I am grateful for the chemical help. It doesn't help that directly with the pain but it helps you be tough and coping with the pain is the biggest deal. Man nothing grates like months and months of torture and sleep deprivation and seeing your wife burn herself down with only a few hours sleep working full time and you have to ask her to bathe you at 2am if you want washed that week. I essentially got 30 mins with human contact a day, the rest shut indoors in the dark in agony. TL;DR probably not the right treatment for negartive thought spirals, CBT far better for that. But still a very useful medication. Access to suicide was never an inhibitor though. You'd need padded cells then nobody would seek help. To be honest, you seek help because you are undecided. If you're an adult you will protect a route to it. Don't recommend tablets though, nasty way to go with most.
