Normally, yes. But you're failing to see how significant this was. This was over the weekend. The CEO had to be called in on a weekend. 'Never again' territory here. There will be vast changes. They're already rethinking this entirely, it was the plan for all their future games. Remember, it isn't because they hate us, they don't care, accounts sounds good to a corpo. 'People are fine with it' 100,000+ refunds and 144 countries blocked from sale is the way they see evidence of the cost. It used to look good to shareholders, accounts. Now it looks very bad. None of them know anything about the particulars you see. That's why its so crap, actually. 'Make our players have accounts with us like microsoft so we can tell shareholders' is the only thought and last the decision makers had to do with it.

It does feel that way. Though Saruman might've captured the shire, this burden is lifted. More than that, how long has it been since we've been so unified?

The context is this was the plan for all their upcoming releases on launch to require psn, so they're having meetings over got and other releases. Backlash isn't even that big a factor, they're seeing that the account requirements are taking at least half the market away from them, when before they didn't think it mattered as 'everyone does it'

Helldivers esprit d'corps is way too strong. No country should be spared from the loving touch of managed democracy.
1
Lots of people are doomer 'nothing will change' except companies had no way to see the market share loss from this behaviour. Now they directly see it. They thought 'its not a big deal' and now there's proof it is.
1
@batboy555 they new and said, its why I didn't get it. Sony was meant to be the one communicating all this though.
1
They mean GoT out in 10 days and their future lineup.
1
Same. Just the esprit d'corps is fantastic, makes me want to join, too.
1
Maybe soon? You're needed to do your part!

@r3ll282 I think it's safe to say they didn't think about it. While most publishers are malicious, I really think incompetence is king at Sony PlayStation. They did accounts because Microsoft does. Even microsoft had no way to tell the market share they lost out on from an account system, though, until now.
1
@MeiAiharaa you missed a lot. It requires the purchase of a modern playstation in many countries and many more now couldn't make an account and play at all as psn has limited coverage. That 'free account' costs hundreds of dollars. More than that, sony is hacked every week nearly and requires more personal details than most. Sony also has withdrawn access to films/series purchased through PSN - account linking allows Sony to steal your game from you in the future.
1
I disagree. They've stated they're having meetings on it as we speak. Give it a couple weeks.
1
Most companies, yes, in this case, its Sony, who genuinely is just that incompetent.
1
It's the only way to protect our managed democracy.
1
Purely to measure dicks with microsoft. They had 0 idea it hurt their bottom line until this weekend, genuinely.
1
It was the weekend. They had to drag the ceo into a meeting at the weekend. This happened instantly in corporate time.
1
The plan was to have it required for online play. They're having meetings this week to decide what to do about it. The CEO would prefer not to be called in over a weekend again.
1
Not quite, they're having meetings on their ghost of tsushima port as that is out in 10 days and would require it too. Remember they work on meetings and business days.
1
That's what Sony thought, but it's not true. There's a decent market share of gamers who do NOT play on games for this reason, me included. I didn't get helldivers because I was aware of the requirement and technical issue. Also sony gets hacked once a month and has you upload personal identity documents and stuff. It is actually worse.
1
You're wrong. They thought like you people 'don't care' but in truth it was just cutting out a huge chunk of their market. They're having meetings this week to see if they should keep the mandatory requirements on got and other upcoming pc releases. We'll see.
1
Now they have numbers to say 50% of pc gamers will not buy the game if it requires an account rather than looking at other games companies and saying 'they do it maybe we should' I think what not to forget is just how the game builds cameraderie. It's a rare phenomenon. Helldivers aren't going to let their brothers and sisters lose their access, they stand together. Its a real 'community'
1
All companies will.
1
@Continus Sony are in meetings about this as we speak, as they can see now the number of customers they will lose out on. This might actually change. They're bone headed and might make poor decisions, but we will get many changes.
