  6. Why not have single weights like a grandfather clock and use a borer for geothermal to dig a big tube and use that for a mile or two. Those machines are easy to get ahold of. Structural support all the way, no wind, no ugly dangerous tower, pure unadulterated physics. Thank me later.

  9. Steel rebars would be needed in the blocks, as well as corner caps. This would make them way more expensive (they are effectively padstones) each line would require its own turbine, less efficient and short lifespan. You aren't entirely wrong, but.. misplaced. Why not use a single weight in a 2 mile deep borehole like that used in krafla. No mechanical or wind challenges. (Wind problem is actually a pendulum problem, more weight is worse, cranes are top heavy so it is not as good as you think) maintenance requirements would be insane. There are simply better methods, even the nuclear bomb chamber with steam vent is a better idea.
