  1. Yes, a kettle uses a huge amount of power, usually only for a minute. A regular winch on a 12v motor can lift 4.5 ton, at 120/15A you'd be talking minutes not hours even for 20 ton

  3.  @axeman2638  while I agree with your assessment to some degree, each years co2 emissions are quite significant, though i'd argue climate wise that isn't a bad thing per se. Then there was the whole coolant eating the ozone layer thing.

  4. Its worse, on a mountain like that you'd just need train track and carts on a cable and you'd do this at a fraction of the cost but bigger and heavier, storing much more energy, under any wind. You know, in a country with more dams than they know what to do with

  5. Gas regeneration isn't new, your office chair for example... forklifts probably use similar systems.
