My theory: The First Order attacks a Resistance base with new Walker units, forcing the Resistance to evacuate, though Finn & Po ship's hyperdrive gets damaged in the scramble, and Kylo Ren orders the First Order to capture them. They take refuge in a mining city with one of Po's old friends, though Rey who is training under Luke has a vision of them being killed and abandons her training to save them. Po and Finn are betrayed by Po's friend and Finn is placed in suspended animation to be displayed as an example to traitors to The First Order. Rey & BB-8 arrive in the city to save them but is ambushed by Kylo Ren, now at full strength compared to their last encounter when he was wounded by Chewbacca. Rey loses her hand in the fight and is forced to flee, though not before Kylo tries to convince Rey to join the darkside, she refuses and reunites with Po and BB-8 to escape.
