@occamraiser Britain and France economic decline happened way before the 1970s/80s. By the late 19th century, Germany was already out competing the French and British in heavy industry and manufacturing. Global demand for German products has always been high, thanks to German excellence in the techno-industrial fields. That was why the British and French waged two massive wars against Germany. By 1945, German industry had been totally destroyed and in the aftermath; only part of German industry was restored (I.e.: automotive). By the time you get to the 1970s/80s, the USA was outcompeting Britain in research and development. Japan was running victory laps around Britain and China was emerging as a major hub for corporate industries.

@glynluff2595 Sounds to me like you’re referring to a moral crisis rather than an economic crisis in the Anglo-sphere of nations (Canada, USA, Australia, Britain). I live in America and I’ve spoken to older folks who tell me this moral rot started way back before the 1970s/80s. In the case of America, by the 1950s, nobody had the patience to learn a trade or work as an engineering technician (despite increasing demands for these professions). Even in the 1980s, American industry could only hire a fraction of the engineers they so desperately needed to implement new systems in a rapidly changing economy.

@glynluff2595 Europe, Britain and America keep on voting for the same lying politicians who talk big, but then when they come into office; they don’t do anything or they make things worse. We’re beyond asking lying politicians for help. We need to become self-sufficient and self-reliant ourselves.

@glynluff2595 And yes I 100% agree with you. We need more moderates doing things locally, instead of the crazies on the right and the crazies on the left running everything down into the ground. The federal and state governments won’t fix any of this. It’s really up to us the people to figure out what to do at the local level.
