@__Wanderer The Amish are self-sufficient, self-reliant and self-governing. They're doing much better than what many isolated suburbanites (like YOU) are doing these days! I'm not talking about throwing away all modern technology. I'm talking about the rejuvenation of local community, social networks, and learning to be more self-sufficient. You suburbanites always panic over high gas prices, rising costs of college, declining public schools etc. etc. The Amish/Mennonites never panic over these things because they got their priorities straight.

Despite the decline in educational standards and vocational training in the USA, we still produce people who are very exceptional and very competent. While many of our industries can only hire a fraction of the engineers, scientists, and technicians so badly needed; America is no position of total collapse and is still in need of many well experienced, well qualified white/blue collar professionals.

People will have more children when they stop being so greedy and give up on modern luxuries such an TV sets, exotic vacations, fancy cars/motorcycles, and other ridiculous gadgets. In Canada/USA, the Amish and Mennonite populations are rapidly growing despite their early 19th century lifestyle.

@fbabarbe430 What are you talking about? The USA gets whatever immigrant leftovers that Canada has (first) taken for themselves. The best and brightest immigrants all go to Canada first, and if the Canadian legal immigration does not accept them, then they go to the USA. Check out the US/Canadian immigration systems first. America (since 1965) has become the flop house for many nations.
