I’m single, working as an electrician and experiencing the same problems as you are. I earn $80k per year but 40% gets taxed by government, rent is $2.5k per month and for a few bags of groceries; I’m paying $150. After all that, I can barely save a few thousand dollars per year.

@nlibby5549 I'm up in Canada and that was a recent grocery store shopping of 3 bags of basic food items at No Frills. Regardless of where I go, its all f*ckin expensive.

Government backed mortgage bonds. The higher the home prices, the more money is earned by banks, government, insurance companies, developers etc.

@RjbigIamMe It used to be that a young person would work hard, go through tough schooling, endure hardship etc. in the name of family or community or for the future of the republic. All that has gone down the toilet and its no surprise that America has gone down the toilet too. Give incentives if you want to improve the economy, social standing etc.

@RjbigIamMe Big unions only work well in the top 20 metropolitan areas. States with smaller cities and less people cannot financially support a union.

@jpres3434 You Americans are heading down the same path of decline as Canada. Canada is simply a decade earlier than America. Aside from nature trails in Canada, everything is 10x more expensive when compared to the USA.

@wendybricht2577 I don't feel sorry one bit for you older folks trying to skimp by month to month with a few hundred dollars. 3/4 of NIMBY's at council meetings are elderly people demanding less housing, less car traffic, less public transit, and less people who are accepted into their area. If you're old and poor, you should not be living by yourself in a big McMansion home out in car dependent suburbia. More municipalities want to re-zone and allow more mixed use development (including multifamily units, cottage courts or residential hotels) but are struck down by retirees who have the time to protest all the time.

@rwalkenhorst Yes, but we allowed that to happen. We went from a nation of producers to a nation of consumers. That is why Nixon dropped the gold standard in 1972 because too much gold was leaving the United States. Since then, the U.S Dollar has been put on the debt standard and is nothing more than debt backed by nothing. Before the 1970s, we used our savings and investments to acquire things. Now, its just credit cards and loads of debt.
