Stop blaming blue collar workers for the decline of manufacturing. The issue lies with bad management causing the decline of American manufacturing. You should study Dr. Deming principles (father of quality).

@ Once again, you make the exact same mistakes as what Dr. Deming mentioned. 80% of the problems are the fault of management, not the workers. Germany and Japan have a powerful manufacturing sector that employ millions while paying high wages. The only difference? Management is far better in Germany and Japan than in America. Stop blaming the workers for everything going wrong!

@ When America opened relations with China in 1972; the Chinese goods that flooded into American markets were cheap but low quality. Countries like Germany that manufactured high quality cars only employed highly skilled workers. As for automation and robotics, you’re over estimating the capacity of what a robot can do. Some things are best suited for robotics and other things are best suited for a skilled worker. It’s a 50/50 balance. You can’t go all the way (100%) with automating an entire factory floor.

@carlthor91 The Great Depression of the 1930s was caused by high finance creating a loan panic and crashing the markets. Prior to WW2, America had no need for any manufactured product coming from overseas. We were self-sufficient in every aspect with a highly competent work force. The only things that needs to import are natural resources (cobalt, lithium, silicon, tantalum etc.). Any global supply chain disruption and you’re left with nothing.

@marcfleury4795 I doubt it. Civilian firearms in America will still be the norm for many generations to come. Especially now, with our nation becoming more fractured and chaotic; more folks are buying more firearms.

Canada commercial and industrial sectors were all “copy and paste” from the USA. From cars, to fire protection sprinklers, HVAC, paved highways, trucking, etc. Canada depends heavily on America for its own economic success. As for skilled trades and engineering, Canada is suffering the same problems as America. We have something called community colleges too, where one can learn welding, plumbing, brick laying, millwright etc. If you think America is so heavily divided, you should see the path of decline that Canada is going through right now with Trudeau and Carney.

@PAIP_Studio It’s not about labor wages, but labor content. And also, you’re overestimating robotics. When it comes to American manufacturing, 85% of the problems are caused by management.

@ Dr. Deming taught the Japanese how to mass produce in both quality and quantity. Lean manufacturing is an off shoot from Dr. Deming principles as it was a Japanese manufacturing engineer who studied Dr. Deming principles and then got more creative with the manufacturing process. As for college course work today, they don’t mention Dr. Deming at all.

I agree with some of the points that you made, but you were wrong about some of the history of American manufacturing. America never produced “excellent products.” The products that we produced were regarded as “good enough” for purchase. After WW2, our manufacturing boomed because there was no need to create a highly effective system or white collar managerial staff. Everyone lined up for goods regardless of what methods American producers used. By the 1980s, when Japan started to beat the US. It was because Japan had adopted the Dr. Deming principles for manufacturing; while American manufacturing continued to get fat and bloated.

@ $2 million dollars in Canada? The Canadian government will tax 60% of that and then you’ll lose the other 40% to high inflation. It’s not always about salaries.

Reminds me of the decline of the American automotive industry. When federal regulators and accountants replaced engineers in management. When the blue collar workforce started hiring high school dropouts rather than technical apprentices. The reputation and quality of American cars went downhill.
