Thank you for sharing this video! I had no idea that a European nation like Romania had lost so much of its architectural beauty too!

You can see the history of other American cities on other YT channels. But I think it’s good he stopped here or else it would get too depressing to make and watch.

Funny how architects, designers and interior designers who create such hated ugliness have lame excuses for such sloppy work. Meanwhile, in any other profession, you’d get fired for doing a sloppy job.

The automobile is no excuse for such destruction of beautiful architecture. Americans, in their pursuit for a “simpler and cheaper” way of living after the war and depression; allowed their cities to be demolished into parking lots. Such a tragedy.

Modernist architecture will never be enduring.

These “high density buildings” are not enduring. He emphasized endurance in his video. Newly constructed, high density buildings all use reinforced concrete; a building material that won’t last more than 50 years. We’re constantly building and demolishing reinforced concrete high rises every 50 years. So how can that be sustainable from an ecological and human standpoint? Medium density construction on the other hand, uses traditional (enduring) construction materials such as stainless steel, brick, stone masonry, and lumber that can last more than 100+ years. A good example to learn from are the railroad buildings of New York or the Chrysler building. Well designed, beautiful and well located with maintenance being minimal compared to land value costs.

@bchristian85 “Cheaper to do it”… yeah that’s the short sighted mentality that we currently have. And it’s a big problem!

You really think all this modernist (minimalist) garbage is enduring? We’re demolishing and re-building concrete structures every 50 years because the materials used for such buildings are not meant to be long lasting. Also, you don’t need to be so highly experienced to design Art Deco. Art Deco is simply fine arts taken from an industrial perspective.

What a tragedy…

Thank you for making this video! This is very beautiful town! The local folks and town certainly defied the modernist architect demand for ugliness and lane excuses! Bravo!

@blackbacon08 The issue you’re addressing now has nothing to do with urban sprawl/planning. If you really wanted infill development done at an incremental pace; you’d support tighter immigration policies and bringing on more financial/education incentives for blue collar trade work. Even if we were to infill all the parking lots; with our rate of immigration (both illegal and legal); we’re going to still end up bulldozing Californian farmlands and native habitats anyways.
2
@blackbacon08 Keep on coping, buddy. You can’t have it both ways; as environmental stewardship and good urban planning all tie into our immigration policies.

@blackbacon08 Who said I hate foreigners? You’re just putting words in my mouth.

Awesome video! I’ll check out B.A.T.F!!

Modernist architects are two faced liars. They design and demand ugliness as “beauty.” Then force their ugly works onto the general public which nobody even likes. If you really understand the background story behind modernist architecture. They deliberately throw up concrete towers, monstrous glass walls, and cement all over to purposely make the area as uninviting and unpleasant for anyone who doesn’t work or live in the area.

When a random dude with a small YT channel makes better recommendations to improving LA transit than people with expensive graduate degrees can think up. It is quite telling of what kind of a society we’ve become…
2
@greysnake2903 You don’t need a graduate or bachelor degree to figure this out. This is all common sense. But how many people are humble these days?

@Novusod Type up "San Francisco 1940" or "New York City World Fair 1939" or "Detroit 1950s". Lol

@night6724 Victorian people from the 1890s were smarter, more experienced, had more social capital and had a higher average IQ than people of 2024. And that is despite all our wireless technology (tablets, computers etc.) that should make people smarter, but its not. More people are getting dumbed down.

@night6724 Seems like someone been drinking the Kool-Aid. None of America founding fathers died at 50 and threw raw sewage out the window. Thomas Jefferson hated cities and preferred rural areas. George Washington lived a long and healthy life, as did Benjamin Franklin. America created Euclidean zoning (car dependent suburbia) to address issues with heavy pollution in big industrial cities. But that created tremendous social isolation for many. That does not mean streetcars or subway trains from back then are inherently bad or technologically inferior. Just look at how much money Americans spend visiting European cities with all its old streetcar networks and mixed use buildings.
