The elegance, manners, dignity, basic intelligence etc. presented in this film makes our current society an absolute sham and disgrace. Sad how far we’ve fallen as a society.

We got rid of manufacturing in the 1980s for cheap imports. The tool makers and machinists in the 80s who lost their jobs to cheap imports; were forced into dishing out fries at a McDonalds to earn a living. Sad, but true. 6 years is enough to learn the basics, but you still need many more years experience as a journeyman to actually accomplish greater tasks.

@danielebrparish4271 Robotics are good at doing monotonous production work. However, there are other cases where you can spend billions of dollars on robotics, but a human welder, machinist or tool maker can do a better job for less cost.

@j78513 Well said. Robotics and automation systems are complicated machinery that require extensive maintenance by a skilled technician, mechanic and/or electrician. When a robot goes down for an hour, that costs the company half a million dollars in lost productive time.

@johnkemas7344 Don’t blame the unions for losing our manufacturing. 85% of our manufacturing problems come from poor management and not the work force. Our managerial class got lazy, stupid, short sighted and too greedy to adapt to modern standards. And no, I’m not making this up. Check out Dr. Edward Deming and his principles for quality. Our steel industry crumbled in the 1970s and 80s because we continued using open hearth blast furnaces to produce steel; which had become obsolete once electric arc furnaces came in around that time. Management failed to adapt and so failed. As for the American automotive industry, you can thank the upper managerial class for replacing mechanical engineers for accountants on the factory floor and in the design office starting in the 1970s.

@hugolafhugolaf 85% of the problems are caused by management. Not unionized workers. Please check out Dr. Edward Deming and his principles of quality production.

@og_steiney I love how everyone blames the workers or unions for everything gone wrong. In reality, 85% of problems come directly from management lack of initiative, lack of leadership and short sighted thinking. Check out Dr. Edward Deming.
