  1. What the British reporter fails to mention is that every year, Japanese companies such as Toyota give out Dr. Deming awards for merit, accomplishments and improvement. It was an American industrial engineer/statistician who taught the Japanese how to produce in high quality.

  2. British industry was in decline before the outbreak of WW1. Britain fought and knocked Germany out of the world markets for several decades in order to ensure its own industrial monopolies. However, by the 1980s/90s, Britain industries were still getting dismantled by Japan and the USA.

  4.  @mayurkanth6987  China is still a socialist nation. The central government heavily subsidizes skilled labor, industry and infrastructure. Lower labor costs for the unskilled does not mean better productivity. They simply get a full time job to work at and they also get subsidizes from the government.

  5.  @robertherman4746  The USSR economy relied on the export of natural resources such as oil and gas. That’s where they got most their revenue from. Why spend more on improving agriculture, manufacturing, research, infrastructure etc. when you can import all your goods from the West?
