Are you serious?? Back when I was a teenager, my high school friends and I managed to run a Tim Hortons very smoothly without any problems. I bet you that manager does not want to pay the $15/hour minimum wage and would rather pay international students $10/hour wages.

Here are the real problems: 1) Stagnant zoning codes. 2) More people benefit from high costs than do the poor or renters. Banks, insurance companies, developers, contractors, local government etc. all benefit from high housing costs. 3) Declining skilled trades and engineering labor make new construction harder. There is a big difference between minimum wage installer and skilled trades people who are required to have critical thinking skills. Engineering shortage is another issue, as you need HVAC engineers to design such complicated HVAC systems for high rise condos. 4) Mortgaging is now done by national banks, rather than local banks. This does not give the option of taking out a loan for a starter home (I.e.: cottage home) like the 1920s.
