  4. Actually, since 1784, the official proclamation day, I believe. It was not Ukrainian before that. Ukraine did not exist. Ukraine did not win it at war. In 1954, Khrushchev arbitrarily, without consultation, transferred administration of Crimea to Ukraine SSR, without approval of Crimea, or consideration of its Russian demographic. He did it to gain favor with Ukraine SSR elite and as a token for his happy career sojourn in Ukraine. As you mentioned, in 2014, Crimea voted overwhelmingly (97% with an 83% turnout) to be REPATRIATED to Russia (differently from the overwhelming votes of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporozhia to be part of/join Russia.
