  1. Isn't the right of self determination a UN right? Yesterday, someone on Twitter posted a synopsis of the break up of, and civil wars in, former Yugoslavia. Found it so interesting, I stayed up quite late re-reading the section on Yugoslavia in an incredible book "Savage Continent," by Keith Lowe, about civil war, war crimes, and ethnic cleansing in Europe during and AFTER WW2 (not including Nazi Germany). I had a vague understanding of questions about US interference in the breakup of Yugoslavia and the resulting civil wars, but no idea about how much interference. Another prime player in the civil wars: Germany. Mainly on the side of Croatia that wanted out and independence, and against Serbia. How fickle is politics. Purely opportunistic and so often, lethal.

  3. I think Russia was pretty foolish to go to the UN for a vote. The UN just a money-sucking organizing paying bureaucrats for no-results jobs.

  4. I have started looking into NATO in more depth. Picture so far? NATO is the singular reason for all Western conflicts since WW2. NATO, of course, is the USA.
