Putin is between a rock and a hard place. He despises Islamist terrorists as much as Israeli and US leaders do; however, Iran's membership in BRICS has created more complexity in the ME. Putin has to tread carefully. As a member of BRICS, Iran has been a strategic foothold for Russia in the ME, complicating the situation in that region. I expect he sees that foothold disappearing, as the potential for US influence in a new Iran appears imminent, supported by the Iranian people and Israel.
