I am not in shock. It has always been clear to me that a goal of the US in the Middle East was to take Gaza. One option - whether workable or not - has always been to resettle Palestinians; however, Jordan and Egypt are against Palestinians settling in their countries. Once bitten twice shy. The wall between Egypt & Gaza tells that story. It cannot be denied that appeasing Palestinian terrorism and Hamas has never worked. The two state solution is not working. Alex, how about you suggesting a workable option.
During negotiation of the Abraham Accords, a solution for Gaza was discussed at length in meetings with world financiers, bankers, real estate developers, insurers, leaders, etc. They were all willing to develop essential infrastructure and systems for Gaza but would not commit to it, because of the lack of property rights and the rule of law in Gaza.
Trump's solution is for a strategic presence in my view and development profits; however, in view of the devastation in Gaza now, and the need for an alliance with Israel, maybe the time is right for a US presence to rebuild Gaza. It would also have the potential to lessen Islamic extremism in the area.
