  1. In HL Mencken's time individuals went to good schools, graduated with skills and knowledge, understood self-sufficiency. Unfortunately, now education is appalling, many university graduates have no skills, very little knowledge, especially in economics, finance and business, no ethics or civility, and ever ready for government handouts. Democracy with ignorant voters has become a crapshoot.
