So Bret Weinstein tells us that this day of absence had been going on for years, yet he did not object, until it became a day of presence, and whites were banned. I get his point that there is a difference between voluntarily staying away and being ordered to stay away; however, frankly, the day of absence is galling and odious in itself. The practice, in my view, greatly contributed to the extreme racism of the people "of color" (a dreadful term -- we are all "of color"). The fact that the faculty was involved in this odious practice just doubles down on the horror. In other words, colleges such as this are deeply involved in the frightful racial hostility we are witnessing today. College faculties should have policies that we are all one "race," the only race on this planet, the human race, and put their students on notice that any other approach will be treated with zero tolerance; that it is merit that counts, not "race" or skin color.
I would like to see all white students and faculty leave the college until it sorts itself out. Let the racists find another group to keep away. Meanwhile, I understand enrolment at this college is down dramatically and the college has lost $6 million in funding. A great lesson about ethics and consequences for the students and faculty.
