You gotta keep making these videos. It's just about the only way we can learn about what Russians really think. It's not an ideal poll but it's impossible to do reliable polling in Russia right now anyway. Thank you!

This channel gets about as close as you can get to what people are actually thinking without getting into trouble. Genius and well done.

You are one brave guy. It's people like you that give me hope that Russia has a chance of joining the free world some day. Great respect and admiration for you. But please be careful.
206
I've been looking at some of your videos from the past - I highly recommend your viewers to take a look, some of them are really interesting. Easy to forget what the world was like before the catastrophe in Ukraine.
138
Thanks for helping that poor old guy last week. Your heart is in the right place.
85
Perhaps rephrase that to "do you believe you are prevented from thinking independently and expressing your thoughts". Nobody believes they are brainwashed by definition.
79
She probably doesn't have access to the truth. I think if the Russians really knew what was going on they would respond differently
77
Well that was depressing. Whatever resentment I may have felt has turned to pity. So many have given up their agency, their freedom to choose their own path. They seem unaware of what they have lost.
76
A good question: would you join the Russian army if Putin asks you to join? How do you feel about your son, husband, boyfriend joining the Russian army to fight on Ukraine?
71
Still waiting for a question about values. Could as simple as asking what differences are there between Western and Russian values.
68
Please be careful. Your videos are great but I don't want you to get busted.
51
Ask about values: what's more important: Security? Income? Freedom? Democracy? Safety? More territory and power? Good relations with neighbors? Behavior is driven by values so understanding values gets to the root of what drives people.
47
Half of them are brainwashed and the other half can't say what they feel. I hope the world understands it's not their fault. Thanks for the video, I think it's important for the free world to see this
38
Well done 1420! Interesting question, interesting answers. I like it that you mix ordinary "safe" questions with more "edgy" questions. You have a real talent for this kind of journalism. You provide something of real value to us. Thank you.
33
I would love to see Americans answer this question.
29
I watch all of your videos and of course am familiar with the response "i dont know about politics so i can't comment". If you asked questions like these in the US everybody would have something to say even if they knew nothing about what you ask them 😉
28
You probably saved his life.
27
Nice to do some lighter subjects but when you're ready for some heavy stuff try this: if Putin called for volunteers to fight in Ukraine, would you go? If Putin asked doubled your taxes and half of your assets would you be ok with that? Just wondering if there is some red line that Russians won't cross if Putin pushed too far.
25
Definitely. "1984" and "Animal Farm" should be required reading. I read both of those books in school but they eventually got dropped from the curriculum. Never more relevant than they are today.
20
Rumors of your arrest were circulating in the blogosphere. Quite a bit of anxiety until we found out you were ok. Made me think: what would we do if any of the Russian vloggers we watch got in trouble? There are organizations that help mainstream reporters but nothing I know about for vloggers.
20
OMG, the cat lady at the end 🤣 . Where do you find these people?
18
@twilightsparkle8403 a lot of Americans faced fines and prison too for dodging the draft and they did it anyway. They didn't want to kill or be killed for something they didn't believe in.
17
@alexmiller23 yes, I know what Putin wants you to believe. But if you would just look outside Russia, spend some time in the EU and talk to ordinary people you would know there is absolutely no interest in doing anything to Russia.
17
I'm sorry to hear that but I have to ask: does anybody consider resisting the draft? Do they know how likely it is they won't come back?
16
The difference is that we succeeded in changing our government because we had the freedom to protest, unrestricted media and fair elections to vote for change. If Russians could do that I'm sure they would have done it by now.
16
I remember that! After so many years of tension we thought a new Era was beginning. We were so hopeful. And now it all turned to s**t because of one man's obsession with empire.
15
Sorry about all the negative comments 1420. You have to tolerate this crap from haters and trolls and at the same time walk a fine line with your government. I hope you don't give up in disgust. In any case, you have a huge following so nobody can deny how much interest there is in what you do. I think your content is really interesting and you have my respect and admiration 👍
15
There are some parallels to the Vietnam war: people from rural areas were more willing to enlist while those from urban areas were more likely to resist. The loss of life definitely contributed to voter rejection of the war. Perhaps even Putin would face resistance if he tried mass mobilization. People may be willing to put up with oppression but being forced to fight and die is something else entirely.
15
@vladbeneshman8071 Afghanistan, Iraq, and Vietnam were mistakes. Korea was not - South Korea is a thriving democracy with freedom. Serbia was engaged in ethnic cleansing and murder. Japan is ancient history.
15
Great respect for you. One of the few Russian YouTubers smart enough to push boundaries to the edge while not stepping over the line. Stay safe but keep the content coming. Thank you for your excellent work.
14
Something is changing in Russia. People are still afraid but here and there you hear people starting to say what they really think. I hope it's a trend
14
@Vagodroch3rz are you saying Russians do know about the killing of civilians, the destruction of infrastructure and homes, the fact that Ukraine was a peaceful country with no thought about conflict with Russia? I seriously doubt it except for the few tech-savy young people with access to global media.
14
@MyName-nx1jj I have voted in every election in the last 40 years. I even write to my representatives if it's something important. And contrary to comments above there are a lot of us that despise the far left AND the far right. Democracy is imperfect but its a hell of a lot better than those sad Russians that have no voice at all.
14
You might want to consider leaving. Your viewpoint could get you in big trouble if the FSB hears about it or one of your comrades betrays you.
14
What would you do if you were drafted? Is resistance to the draft possible? Do Russians talk about draft resistance among themselves? If you can safely answer I would really like to know.
13
@Vitaliy Nechaev good luck. I'm not sure I would survive in that environment. I'm far too accustomed to saying whatever I want. Censoring myself would be very difficult. Hope you get through this ok 👍
13
@НатальяМусабаева-у8е security in economic terms is what I meant to say. Safety from arrest but also safety from conscription.
11
There have been LGBT as long as there have been human beings. I don't know why it's a topic of conversation. You don't see controversy over whether someone is left or right-handed, so why this. Waste of time.
11
He doesn't actually say anything very critical about the government himself. He's only asking questions. Of course, we can read between the lines, but I think he knows what he's doing.
10
Thanks! Stay safe Daniil and your team 🙏

@BunBabylon refusal to fight in Vietnam was one of many reasons America finally pulled out of there. Maybe if Russians refuse to fight it will help end the war in Ukraine.
9
If you asked this question in America you would probably get people whom blame America. In this war we are not at fault. I love my country but I won't deny we don't have a great record in the past. Of course neither do a lot of countries either. People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.
9
You are really on a roll 1420! Excellent questions, excellent videos. I look forward to them every day.
9
Sometimes it seems like Russians are resigned to living without freedom or democracy. Like it's a fact of life they learn to live with. In the long arc of history freedom and democracy are fairly new so maybe it will take a time to grow
9
@pirangeloferretti3588 what specifically do you disagree with?
9
Excellent idea. Would love to see something like that.
8
@Catallin12 how desperate they must be to risk their lives for a paycheck.
8
People who say they don't like Russians don't understand the complex history of Russia. People who grew up in the free world can't understand why there is so little resistance to Putin. Political argument and pushing back against the government is part of who we are so when we see apolitical apathy we can't empathize very easily. My ancestors come from Russia and passed down their affection for Russian culture to my generation. I could never dislike the Russian people but I admit I do feel frustrated that the county is locked in to an endless tyranny that shows no sign of changing.
8
@evdok8900 so what political structure would you prefer if not freedom and democracy? And about the feelings people have about Russia - it's mostly because Putin keeps attacking it's neighbors. How exactly are we supposed to feel about that?
8
Obviously you can't do that but it would be interesting to hear from the siloviki. I'm sure at least some of them have doubts about what direction Russia is going in.
