Makes me wish I had asked may parents and grandparents about those times. They escaped from Russia when Stalin made it too dangerous to stay and harder to leave. So sorry for those who didn't make it out in time.

@ronleight9341 my mother actually liked it there: the culture, arts and crafts, etc. She had a good job in a auto manufacturing company. She even subscribed to some "soviet life" magazine when she was in the US. I remember reading them when I was a boy. The only bad memory she told me about was the escape itself. Apparently she knew someone in the Canadian embassy who helped her get out just in time.

@justthesun don't know the details but she was the last of the family to get out (they all left before the war) and it happened near the end of WW2.
