You probably saved his life.

@twilightsparkle8403 a lot of Americans faced fines and prison too for dodging the draft and they did it anyway. They didn't want to kill or be killed for something they didn't believe in.
17
I'm sorry to hear that but I have to ask: does anybody consider resisting the draft? Do they know how likely it is they won't come back?
16
There are some parallels to the Vietnam war: people from rural areas were more willing to enlist while those from urban areas were more likely to resist. The loss of life definitely contributed to voter rejection of the war. Perhaps even Putin would face resistance if he tried mass mobilization. People may be willing to put up with oppression but being forced to fight and die is something else entirely.

What would you do if you were drafted? Is resistance to the draft possible? Do Russians talk about draft resistance among themselves? If you can safely answer I would really like to know.
13
@Catallin12 how desperate they must be to risk their lives for a paycheck.

@twilightsparkle8403 thankfully I never had to make that decision because I was too young to fight in Vietnam but I was definitely considering my options. I would not have gone to fight there.

@SlpBeauty333 I have seen content from that channel. A lot of it is very sad and hard to watch. I have no solutions but it's just so wrong to be so poor that the only way out is to risk their lives in a meaningless war.

Hopefully when people hear these stories they will refuse to go.

People arguing about who is right or wrong in these comments miss the point. This is about death. Are Russians willing to die for this absurd war? Ukrainians have no choice, but Russians do.
2
Is there any kind resistance to being drafted? Do people know how many soldiers are getting killed? I know they are in the minority but how do those against the war respond to being drafted?
2
You are missing the point. Every draft age man has to decide if they will risk their life for a questionable cause. Do you believe in Putin so much that you will die for his cause? Because that is what it comes down to in the end.
1
A lot of Russians are dead too. Are you willing to fight and die too? Do you believe Putin so much that you will die for him?
1
@ОлекЛис so you believe you have no choice? You really think the West is threatening you? The war is in Ukraine, not Russia. Are you so sure that you would fight and die for this?
1
@ОлекЛис and you believe this so much you will fight and die for this? You are that certain about it? Come to America and talk to the people - nobody is interested in Russia except when it attacks a free country. I know I'm not going to change your mind but the lives of ordinary Russians are ending because people believe as you do. Human life. Do you want that on your conscience? Are you that willing to have people die for your beliefs?
1
@ОлекЛис who is telling you this? Most people here are more interested in cat videos and celebrity scandals. Nobody cares about doing anything against Russia unless they attack a free country. You think we sit around and make evil plans against you? Ridiculous. Most people never even thought anything about Russia until the attack on Ukraine. This is all just Putin trying to scare you into thinking everyone is out to get you. The scary thing is so many of you actually believe it.
1
@ОльгаБредлер I watched the video and I understand the narrative Putin wants you to believe. I know I can't convince you to believe otherwise but again I ask you: are you so sure that you will kill or be killed for this? All of Ukraine is ready to fight and die for their country whether you believe it or not. Are you willing to sacrifice ordinary Russian lives for this?
1
@ballinamoresquirrel maybe it's that militaristic eagerness to fight and kill that's part of the problem. Other nations have proud professional armies too but war is something most nations try to avoid.
1
@PutinTop what about you? Are you so confident that you are willing to fight and possibly die? And for what? For some piece of territory?
1
@user-jj1bp3es3j maybe not yet, but it will come eventually. Putin can't win without more troops. Conscription is inevitable.
1
@alexmiller23 so are you ready to fight and die? Is your belief that its all western propaganda so strong that you would risk your life?
1
@scratchy996 even so, i think passive resistance is possible. Avoiding being drafted is a form of resistance
1
@daark1799 would you go if you were drafted? Are you willing to ignore "western propaganda" and put your life in danger? And for what? Makes no sense to me.
1
@scratchy996 is it better to go and kill or be killed for Putin's obsession with empire? People all over the world have resisted being drafted into wars. Worst case they can leave the country like Americans that went to Canada during the Vietnam war.
1
@aycc-nbh7289 there is always a choice. Is anything worth death in a foreign country for something you don't believe in? Draft resistance is nothing new. Worst case just leave the country like many Americans did during the Vietnam war.
1
@aycc-nbh7289 would the Russian people accept the government killing people for avoiding the draft? How much death in war or resisting war is acceptable? I've learned how Russians can cope without freedom but death is something else entirely.
1
@aycc-nbh7289 I'm not so sure. Putin seems reluctant to increase conscription and have conscripts fighting. Why would he be reluctant if he wasn't concerned about a reaction? Obviously I don't know how things really work over there but all that death must be having an impact (or maybe not, I don't know)
