  1. Democracy and free markets are ideal but very difficult to maintain. Requires active informed citizens participating at all times and continous vigilance to prevent excessive concentrations of power and wealth. Not many countries have ideal democracies. Once a country slides into autocracy its hard to recover. Even the US is struggling to resist, our last president tried to take power after losing an election.
